70. Hike Squaw Peak
70. Hike Squaw Peak
The Squaw Peak summit is the cliff-face of the mountain that juts out over the Provo Temple. It is very different from the surrounding mountains, because it really doesn't look much like a mountain. But it was a HIKE.
7 miles roundtrip, all uphill. It wasn't so bad, but it never seemed to end, and I complained a lot. There were several gorgeous meadows with flowers before the top, and wildflowers of any variety make me absolutely giddy. That helped with the complaining a bit!
The top is breathtaking because the views are 360. To the east is the Provo Canyon and Provo Peaks, still covered in snow. To the south you can almost see all the way to Payson clearly. To the west you can see Utah lake, and all of Provo and Orem. To the north you can see everything to the point of the mountain and beautiful Timpanogos. It was fun to pick out my apartment. You can see 4 Temples (counting the speck that was Payson) from the top, which is pretty darn cool.
Squaw peak is great, and there are so many things to do there! Caves, climbing, swimming, hammocking, etc. I feel so lucky to have this place in my backyard!
