National Week of Prayer (Week 1)
This semester I will be posting my thoughts every week on some media I've consumed. This is a semester-long project for my SFL 358 class: Media and Family Development.
On a weekly if not daily basis nowadays, you get on Instagram to discover that it is "National fill-in-the-blank Day." Sometimes it seems like there are more than one of these days per year, and ~almost always~ it seems like just another excuse to post. This week I logged into Facebook to see that September 7-9th was the "National Weekend of Prayer for Faith, Hope, and Life" which is kind of a mouthful. My church invited its members to pray for those who are affected by suicide, which is a majority of the population. The next day I read an article by one of the faculty in the program I work for, about suicide.
I appreciated the article and the opportunity to pray for these things, knowing that many others would be praying too. I also appreciated how accessible all of this information was. Social media gets hounded all the time, but articles and announcements like these give me hope that it really can be used to bring about wonderful things :)
That's awesome. I am also grateful for these types of things. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I totally agree with you, all the "National Whatever" days are hilarious. Can you imagine the irony of a National No Social Media Day? Haha
